In an effort to do the right thing - I am currently digitizing a bunch of newly purchased discs. I plan on reaching out to Sound Choice for an audit before I start using all of the new material in my show. But my questions deals more with the process of backing up. As a computer guy, I understand the importance of backups. I want to know what Sound Choice approves of regarding backups. I would like to create an exact duplicate of my production drive (the one I use for my show). I would also like to create an additional backup of all the content to another location on my home network so that I can easily produce another "show drive" in the event of a catastrophic failure of all other backups. Can I do this? -Chris |

Chris, I find this interesting. Are you also contacting every other brand you carry with this same question? Or maybe a better question would be why was this not an open question to all manufacturers? Oh wait, I can answer my own question - other manufacturers aren't threatening to sue you out of existence. |

Considering the breadth of what I plan on doing with my karaoke business, I have no problem reaching out to the manufacturers so I can understand what they want and so they can understand what I want to do. -Chris |

I am reaching out to HarringtonLaw because he is willing to particpate in a discussion. I have a CAP agreement with Stellar, and I am Chartbuster Certified. I am being pro-active in contacting Sound Choice. Since I am a 1-1 Hoster I feel pretty comfortable with what I am doing. If the rest of the manufacturers come calling, I will deal with them as necessary. -Chris |

This might sound like a silly question but are audits free  I mean, if you bought from a manufacture, shouldn't they be thankful and provide the certificate for FREE  Folks, tell me you are not paying on top of your original purchased

As for the audit fee or fee for the PRIVLIGE to be able to go 1:1, the fee basically covers the cost of an audit. Now you can say no but it wil be done if you are sued and a Discovery will be made. Of course the cost (ie attorney's fee) will be more than the audit will be. Micky, in Canada, a DJ can media shift their discs to computer as long as you pay the AVLA fee. Unfortunately, AVLA does not cover CD+G. |

I find it sad to know that KJ's have to spend thousands of $ on their cdg's from SC and to be legal still need to give them more money to have a legal certificate  If someone buy's the GEM collection, I hope they do get certified for FREE I understand that Harrington has a job to do but I still think it's not a way to threat your loyal customers, you folks have spends thousands of $ and are fighting to stay in business because of all these pirates... and now, you need to pay the company that you've been encouraging Shouldn't they be thankful to you, with out you KJ's, they wouldn't be able to pay a Mr. Harrington... I'm no KJ but if I were and my collection were 1:1 and all SC's, I would NEVER pay them, I would let them bring me to court and let the judge see how much they respect their loyal customers

@Harrington - To be fair, my request is not something that is all that unusual. I would think that anyone that is interested in protecting their investment would want to backup at least once. Let me expand on my original question - Do I need permission from Sound Choice to backup my original discs to CD? (this would not be a media shift) Do I need permission from Sound Choice to backup my original discs to a hard drive? (this would be a media shift for backup purposes only) Once these questions are answered, we can come back to the question in my original post. -Chris |

I thought your mp3+gs back up you cdgs & your cdgs back up your mp3+gs. If my hard drive crashes, then it's ripping time again. Am I wrong, and did anyone else think that was the case?.....thanks, Greg |
