Ummm,, that's my entire point!!! Seems like L.A. isn't immune after all to the decline of karaoke activity. Now is it JD?? Looks like all your "plenty of karaoke in L.A." posters are a bit of a snow job.

I do not believe, for a second, that karaoke is any less popular than it was 20 years ago. There are still some local places in my area that get at least 30 or more singers on karaoke night. Of course, some do better than others depending on the venue and location.

While the economy has gotten a lot better, food and gas prices have not. As I've said before, this is the reason for it's decline, not that people don't like it anymore. For many people, it's a choice: spend the money on food or go out to a karaoke bar. Food will usually win out

Karaoke is still the #1 form of entertainment bar owners can provide to bring in customers. It's a lot cheaper than hiring a band.

At one of my venues, the manager told me that karaoke night was their best night of the week, even better than the nights they had bands.

So, to sum this up... karaoke isn't any less popular... it's just that (some) people can't afford to go out like they used to.

OK, karaoke will never truly "die". As the older generation move off, they usually are replaced with the younger crowds. That is the circle of life I suppose. However, what I see, is a markedly decline in the amount of bars/venues that offer karaoke, and even those places a decline in the number of people singing. It's across the board here, nobody seems to be immune. Yes, there still is karaoke available for those who want to participate, but it is getting harder and harder to find places to do it at, let alone places that offer "good" karaoke. Like I asked earlier in the thread "Is karaoke dying? Or is it being killed off by bad hosting?" I suppose that is a bigger and better question.

I want to be positive, and I hope for better days. I am quite sure you would all agree with that. But in reality, where is this heading? The demands and trends of the typical bar goer are changing, and not many owners/managers are keeping up with the changes.

The whole point of this thread is to see if people in other places are seeing the same thing as I am. Here in Utah, there are only about 3 or 4 dedicated karaoke bars in the entire state. Yes, there are other places that offer karaoke on certain nights of the week. Most of those, they come and go like the wind. Some only offer karaoke as an event every once in a while. Not much consistency at all. I have to drive 85 miles one way, one day per week, just to host my one and only show. The only other bar between my house and that one is a local bar less than 10 minutes away from my house. I used to host there for over 15 years until the owner died, and the new owner and I don't see eye to eye. (she's a horrible bar owner, she's her own worst enemy) But even she only does karaoke about once every 2-3 months as an event. This isn't uncommon in Utah anymore.

Sure, I would love to be positive and have a great outlook on the future, and I am sure most of you would agree. But when I see contradicting statements from people here that say,, "Oh plenty of karaoke here" vs "support your local karaoke before it's gone", I see that honestly, I am not alone in my concerns.

The last time I was in Utah, (2021) to visit Zion, I didn't see any Karaoke near there. But I was pleased I could actually buy a beer. That was a positive change, welcome to the twentieth century, Utah.

No,, "rude".

Let's see:
You dis Adele, calling her fat.
You dis a state that is one of the best states in the entire country to live in,,, a state that so many Californians trying to move to,, escaping in droves from your beloved home of the ,,, lets see again, what did you call them? Oh yeah, "Hollyweirdos".
You threaten member with banning simply because they don't agree with your "holier than thou" opinion and power happy, ego filled, authority complex.
You frequently break the rules of this forum by posting a bunch of crap (memes, pics, etc) that is untrue or unwarranted.
You are a horrible example of what a moderator is supposed to be doing. It's no wonder people have left here to go to the evil "Facebook",,, (your words)

Yes, I'm not impressed with you JD, not in the slightest.

Now, THAT is "honesty".

To Coin A Phrase, "Great Scott", What Next?
I spent many years driving through Utah, I was never impressed.
I refuse to discuss the "gold plates" and genocide stories tagged with that state.
Just to be clear, nobody like moderation.
However, it's required.
The Memes you don't approve of, scroll on by.
The attached image describes most of what I do here.

I have limited time to justify how management wishes this site to be moderated.
At The risk of repeating myself, management has a say on almost all moderation here.
And yes, it has slowed down here. Many have moved over to the evil facebork.
Again, me being rude, perhaps you can explain the gold plates..
Over to you far a snarky comment.

These past few posts are EXACTLY the kind of bull$hit that kept me away for the longest time, and will keep me away from now on. I don't give a rat's (@$%&#!) if you two (and others) can't stand each other... to snipe at each other, and to air dirty laundry on the board is totally un-necessary. Grow up... both of you. ... Now, I'll go see if I can find something interesting on the "evil facebook". And to think, there was a time I actually enjoyed this place. So sad.

You are right Earl. I acted poorly, and I do apologize for losing my cool. I am normally a very even keeled, happy go lucky, kind of guy. Not that it is a good excuse, but this is how I felt at the time. When a person who is supposed to be a moderator of any place, not just this one, crosses the line of poking a stick at somebody else's religion and where I live, I got really angry. I was literally shaking from being so upset while I was typing the earlier post. I feel a moderator should NEVER cross those lines, and should always remain neutral.

I definitely could have handled it much differently, with a lot less drama involved. I do apologize for my actions.

This forum is down to only a handful of people who sign on and visit occasionally, only to do "drive by's" and not say anything at all. This forum used to be the premier karaoke board on the entire planet. People from all over the world would add their views and different perspectives to the topics at hand. It was a place of learning new concepts of what karaoke looks like and technical advice to make informed choices. Even the "off karaoke" topics it was a place where we could make new friends and share stories. Even when we disagreed on certain posts, it was a learning experience. It's quite OK to think differently from others, it is the spice of life.

When I see people being wronged by someone in authority, it makes me boil inside. That includes authority figures from all walks of life, judges, police, bosses, etc, and I feel it's a reason to speak up and try to right those wrongs. Like a particular country songs says, "You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything". People need to make a choice on what they believe in and feel to be "right". Maybe I go overboard at times in my responses and posts, and I sincerely apologize if and when I do.

When and if the members of this forum stop in, I would love for them to at least acknowledge their presence and leave some sort of responses to topics, or add new ones too. If you ignore what is going on and "hope" things will get better, then it really solves nothing. It's like hiding your head in the sand. Sure we all really should be adult and civil in our discussions, and that includes everyone.

p.s. This also includes when people don't follow the rules set forth to whatever situation that goes with the activities involved.
