In 1999, most music was "shipped" on a cd and there is a big difference between "revenue" and "profit." I'm sure that after costs, "shipping" a bunch of music via the internet (download) is much more "profitable" even if revenues are less.

Understood. I don't think anyone believes that their profits are the same with 50% less revenue though. The execs are still making good money, but not like they used to.
