Hi guys

My CDG player has USB access so i can plug an external Hardrive, and all my tracks are stored on my PC so i can reburn them if i have any problems. I've invested in an external drive, but when i copy all the tracks across it only plays the music, no text. I know the text files are on there as well, so I'm a bit confused.

Regards

Matt

no, the brand is Ultimate, but from looking at the CAVS one, it's a similar theory.

There's your problem, it supports only MP3, not Mp3+G.  Therefore, yes it plasy the music (.MP3)file, but it dosent play the lyrics (.CDG) file.

Wow... not on THIS short a notice!

With the MP3+G format, you have to play them on a device that recognizes THOSE SPECIFIC formats. CAVS does, but unfortunately that player recognizes only IT's own version of MP3+G (where the files are specific). And I know nothing about how CAVS itself sees the different formats and converts them. You'd have to talk to them about this.

What you have to do is convert your mp3+g files to .bin files (basically the way a computer sees a karaoke disc). Burn those files to a new disc... in essence, recreating the discs that they should have come on.

You lost your main disc collection? As in they were stolen?? From a technical perspective, you don't have the rights to your mp3+gs!

Not to badger you about it, but something tells me you bought this hard drive preloaded...

heheheh no worries... I certain ain't the karaoke cops.

Ultimately, we all decide on how best to follow the laws of man and your respective other power. Many interpret them, or go to gray areas. Heck, if I followed the law as it's written today, you can't do a mp3+g show... only at home!

So who am I to really say boo to a ghost?!!?!??!?

you'll want mp3toolz to convert your files, if you don't already have it! PM me or email me if you don't know how to do the conversion to .bin, record the .bin files... you may need a specific burner!

This player plays in DIVX format so it will play karaoke tracks from the hard drive but you need to convert them to DIVX first. First you rip them to your hard drive as .bin files then you use "Power CD+G to AVI Ripper" to convert them to DIVX files and you'll be set! I've done the same with the Cavs player and it works.

The Cavs unit plays MP3+MCG files they have to be converted.

well we did the gig with a few discs missing but it went fine. I tested one converted disc on the hard drive, and it worked a treat, so i'm gonna spend the next few days getting them all transfered over. Thanks for the help and advice tonight, I'm so glad I found this site!

If your talking about the cavs 203g usb player, it won't play MP3+CDG files you have to convert them to Cavs format which is MP3+MCG. Same size Converts really fast, I had all my files already converted to Divx for my Vocopro hard drive unit so I've benn using them on the hard drive with the cavs unit. They run OK but the player is a bit unstable.
